Indulge in the Mid-Autumn Festival activities from September 29 through October 4, 2017. The Peninsula Chicago will be celebrating one of the most charming and colorful annual events in China, which falls on October 4 this year.  Mid-Autumn Festival celebrates the harvest time and the biggest, brightest moon of the year. Special offerings at The Peninsula include authentic mooncakes (the traditional sweet cakes savored on this holiday), Mid-Autumn-inspired menus and dim sum, Cocktails at Shanghai Terrace and even a Chinese-themed Bamboo Harmonizer Massage in The Peninsula Spa.

MINI EGG CUSTARD MOONCAKES FOR SALE

Gifting mooncakes is one of the hallmark traditions of the Mid-Autumn Festival. Following The Peninsula Hong Kong’s secret recipe, limited-edition mini Mooncake Gift Sets are available for purchase in Shanghai Terrace. Mooncake purchases can be made now through October 4 while supplies last. More details on mooncake orders and pick-up can be found here.

FIVE-COURSE SPECIALTY MENU AT SHANGHAI TERRACE

In addition to hand-making all of the mooncakes for The Peninsula Chicago, Shanghai Terrace’s culinary team will offer a collection of authentic Mid-Autumn-inspired cuisine including dim sum, peking duck, Australian red abalone, Maine lobster in the shell and crispy beef tenderloin.  The six-course menu is priced at US$ 128 per person and it will be offered September 29 through October 4. See more details here.

MID-AUTUMN COCKTAIL AT SHANGHAI TERRACE

Continuing with the Mid-Autumn Festival celebration, Shanghai Terrace will also be offering a Mid-Autumn-inspired cocktail, 'Chang'e Elixir'.  The cocktail is representative of the Elixir that the Moon Goddess of Immortality, Chang'e, drank in the Chinese Myth explaining the origin of Mid-Autumn Festival. Combining ingredients like Hakusur Junmai Ginjo Sake, Yuzu Liquor Choya Umeshu, Plum Brandy, and Passion Fruit Puree, this refreshing cocktail is paired well with dim sum or mooncakes.

BAMBOO HARMONIZER MASSAGE AT THE PENINSULA SPA

In honor of the Mid-Autumn Festival, The Peninsula Spa recommends the Bamboo Harmonizer Massage. This massage uses traditional bamboo to target tense muscles and provide therapeutic relief to sore and stressed joints. A 90-minute massage starts at US$ 275. To request a Spa appointment, please call +1 (312) 573 6860 or e-mail spapch@peninsula.com. For more details on the Bamboo Harmonizer Massage, please visit here.
