IPW’s Sweet Home Chicago Treats Tour

A "Sweet" Way to Enjoy Chicago

The Peninsula Chicago hosted numerous international media during the city’s IPW Conference held in Chicago, April 5 through 9, 2014. IPW (International POW WOW) is the U.S. travel industry's premier international marketplace and the largest generator of travel to the U.S. More than 1,200 tour operators and 500 media from 70 countries conduct business that results in $4.7 billion in future USA travel.

As a part of the official IPW events, media could choose between a variety of tours that would feature a different aspect of Chicago. The Peninsula Chicago was selected to be a highlight on the “Sweet Home Chicago Treats Tour.”

Kai Lermen, Director of Food & Beverage, introduced the media to “Chocolate at The Pen” which offers a wide array of one- and two-bite-size, elegant chocolate desserts and petite chocolate delicacies such as Dark Chocolate Passion Fruit Tart, Pistachio Orange Entremet, White Chocolate Pineapple Petit Gateau, Tiramisu Bar, German Chocolate Verrine, as well as unlimited coffee, cappuccino or espresso.

To commemorate the 10th anniversary of Chocolate at The Pen in 2014, The Peninsula Chicago introduced “Decade of Decadence,” experience which includes more chocolate offerings and the “Chocolate Sommelier.”

Media representatives met Executive Pastry Chef and “Chocolate Sommelier” Dimitri Fayard and were encouraged to create their own hot chocolate confections. The Chocolate Sommelier guided guests to choose from different types of chocolate including white, milk, dark and extra dark chocolate. The chocolate was melted in miniature copper pots in front of the guests as they chose another layer of flavor to add to their pots using spices such as cinnamon, cayenne and vanilla. People sipped their hot chocolate before being directed to the next stop on the IPW “Sweet Home Chicago Treats Tour”, Vosges Chocolates. All in all, a very “sweet” way to enjoy Chicago!
